KISS, KISS, KISS as one of my professors used to say. Keep it super simple. And that is what I've tried to do with this pattern. Skip to the pattern or read on for the inspiration behind it.
The Inspiration
As I release patterns, I wanted to first create a series that honors my family. The Xina neckwarmer was named after the family dog. Now, I'm moving on to my Mother (She insists I capitalize her title. Typical mom. She's such a character). She, for some reason I can't figure out, refuses to use anything I make that doesn't have "natural fibers". If she does not want the ease of cleaning that comes with acrylic yarn, that is her decision. So, just for her, I started dabbling in cotton yarn. I knew just what I was going to make: an airy, slouchy beanie perfect for summer.
In order to create the type of drape she wanted, I knew I would have to size up for the hook. The N hook was as large as I could go and still have the stitches be manageable,
So that's exactly what I did. Because of the oversize hook, I was able to use a simple double crochet stitch and get an effortless lacy effect. My mom loves it. My aunt and grandmother have already asked for one. It's quick, it's easy, it's serving me an immediate sense of accomplishment while my day job insists on delayed gratification, honey. Need I say more? The answer is no. I needn't.
This particular yarn is what I would call a alight worsted. I have dont the pattern with CYC #3 yarn and it works out just as well. I did the purple hat above in crochet thread. It's very forgiving. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
