Originally, Flo and I wanted to do the actual chevron stitch with increases and decreases. However, this created an uneven edge that we couldn't really figure out how to seam in to the other blocks neatly. So we went back to the drawing board and found this neat stitch. You still get a chevron look with texture.
If you want to learn the regular chevron stitch, don't worry, so do I! So we will be offering it as a bonus stitch at the end. It will be a small swatch that you can use as an optional pocket.

CHEVRON RIB STITCH
Notes
Composed of knits and purls, an 8-row repeat creates triangular chevron shapes throughout the swatch. As more repeats are completed, more chevrons will appear stacked on top of one another! We found many variations on the chevron stitch when completing research for this week’s swatch, but ultimately decided to use the “Chevron Rib Stitch” as taught by Studio Knit. This particular version of the Chevron Stitch had the benefit of creating beautiful chevrons in our work while also keeping a straight edge to the swatch. We found this worked the best specifically for sewing the swatches together to create the sweater.
Gauge
18st x 22r =4 x 4" (10cm)
Tip: pay attention to this, especially if you are modifying the pattern.
Abbreviations
K - Knit
P - Purl
RS - Right side
WS - Wrong Side
Finished Size
Do NOT measure the stockinette border. This will be used for seaming and shouldn't contribute to the finished size of the sweater.

Instructions
Cast on 44 (50, 54, 58, 62) (68, 72, 76, 80) sts
Row 1: Knit across (rs)
Row 2: Purl across (ws)
The st pattern from here gets a little more complicated. In order to keep the pattern centered in the swatch, I took multiples of two from the sides of the pattern (one on each side). Find your size below and work the pattern for rows 3-10.

If you are going to alter the pattern, the gauge for this is:
18st x 22r =4 x 4" (10cm)
Plug this into the final equations for the Bust Blocks:
Gauge st x gauge row = 4 x 4 inches
_____ (bust block width) x ( _____Gauge st / 4”) = # sts _____
_____ (bust block length) x ( _____Gauge rows / 4”) = # rows _____
Once you have your stitch and row count, use those numbers in the pattern instructions above.
