Xina Neckwarmer

Updated: Jan 31, 2021

All the other designers and makers are giving away free patterns to #flattenthecurve and I'm not one to be left out. Read about how I named this and the inspiration, or scroll down for the free pattern.

I was wondering what to call this that was a little less descriptive and more artsy. I think of patterns like the Malia beanie by Yarn + Chai which are immediately recognizable by name and wanted to do something like that.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of my sister's dog. I won't go into details, but it has put a damper on the mood of the entire family. She was such a sweetheart and really the perfect canine companion to my niece and nephew.

I mean, look at that face!

So I wanted to do something to remember her. I'm thinking that I might wind up using family names for my other patterns as I release them. What do you think?

I was inspired to make a pattern like this from my ever growing scrap yarn hoard. I made a hat for everyone in my program for the holiday season in 2019 and wound up giving myself tendinitis. Silly me.

But each of those hats only used up about half a skein of yarn. So, how to eat up the rest? Well, yes, one day I will work all of these into a lovely scrapghan, but today is not that day. I like quick and easy patterns and I hope you do too.

I love the feel and look of knitted fabric, but have a preference for crochet. I'm quicker at it and it causes a little less stress on my wrists. So I made this pattern for beginners in crochet who maybe prefer a knit-look as well but don't have the time or patience to learn another craft. It would also be a nice first project for knitters dipping their fast fingers into the realm of crochet.

Make sure to check out the medical side of The Call Room blog for little bits of insight into the medical field through my, admittedly, jaded point of view. Without further ado, let's get to it!
